Ava means “pass” in tahitian. For Polynesians, and for many islanders around the globe, and at a time where airplanes did not exist, passes have been one of the first ways to communicate with the outside world as it allowed navigators to leave the lagoon and enter the great sea in order to explore foreign territories. It also allowed travelers and settlers to enter, usually bringing their modern customs and way of life with them. The numerous passes of Polynesian islands have inspired many legends and local people have a deep respect for these special places that are often considered as mystical. This is the story behind the name they chose for their brand.
